This Academic Support Center (ASC) Student Code of Conduct has been created for use at both
Montana State University Billings (MSUB) ASC locations. Although two different locations,
students are still responsible for adhering to student conduct outlined in the Student Policies &
Procedures Handbook.
The mission of the Academic Support Center is to support students in the learning process by:
providing a welcoming academic environment; empowering students to attain their educational
goals through tutoring, supplemental instruction, and peer mentoring; collaborating with
faculty and staff to respond to the needs of a diverse student population.

MSUB is:

  • a tobacco-free campus.
  • an alcohol-free, drug-free campus.

When using the ASC students agree to:

  • Be mindful of noise. We do not require silence in the ASC, however, as it is a collaborative space.
  • Be respectful of all equipment and materials in the center.
  • Behave appropriately. If any behavior is inappropriate or disruptive to other learners, we will ask the
disruptive party to leave until such person/s can be respectful.
  • Eat meals in the lounge area outside of the ASC or in other campus dining areas. While we allow snacks and
covered beverages, full meals apart from ASC events are not permitted. Staff are welcome to eat their lunches
    in the breakroom.
  • Understand that coffee and/or popcorn are perks. The ASC is happy to provide coffee and/or popcorn as a
perk, not a standard. We cannot guarantee perks will always be available.
  • Pick up after themselves and throw away any trash they accumulate during their visit.
  • Turn down or silence mobile devices, they must not disrupt other ASC users.
  • Always attend personal belongings; the ASC is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

When using ASC Services students agree that:

  • In order to support as many students as possible, The ASC does not allow back-to-back appointments with the
    same tutor/resource.
  • At any given time, students may not have more than 3 simultaneous active appointments per schedule
(University Campus, City College, Peer Navigators, SI, etc.).
  • The ASC cannot promise to have tutors in all subject content. However, we will do our best to help all students
    become confident learners.
  • They will adhere to the standards of academic honesty outlined in the MSUB Student Handbook. ASC staff
can assist students but cannot complete students’ assignments for them or aid in quizzes or exams.
  • When they attend study hall or tutoring for credit, students are expected to be in the ASC for all catalogued
hours. Students who leave the ASC without checking out will not be marked as present.
  • It is the student’s responsibility to collect client report forms to send them to their instructor.
  • Tutors/SI leaders DO NOT replace instructors and may not have an answer immediately.
  • They will respect the tutor’s time by being punctual and prepared for tutoring sessions and proactively
    cancelling/rescheduling appointments if necessary.
