Garion Holian

MSU BILLINGS NEWS SERVICES — Montana State University Billings student Garion Holian will perform his senior recital on Friday, Nov. 16 at 7:30 p.m. in Cisel Recital Hall on the MSU Billings campus. The recital is free and open to the public.

A violist, Holian will perform works from Johannes S. Bach, Franz Schubert, Arthur Foote and Franz Anton Hoffmeister.  Joining him on stage will be Delores Vigasaa, piano, and Samantha Hamburg, flute.

Originally from Texas, Holian moved with his family to Missoula where he graduated from Hellgate High School.  While in Missoula, he studied with Dr. Margaret Nichols-Baldridge, violin/viola professor at the University of Montana and concertmistress with the Missoula Symphony.  He played with the Missoula All-City Symphony in middle school and during high school, he was a member of the Missoula Youth Symphony, All State Orchestra and All State Honors Orchestra.

Soccer brought Holian to MSU Billings and during his college years, the university’s music department, adjunct viola teacher Amy Letson and soccer coach Daniel McNally encouraged him to pursue both interests.  Holian has performed with the Billings Symphony Orchestra and the MSU Billings Percussion Ensemble. During the summer of 2012, he focused on music while attending Brevard Music Center and Rocky Ridge Music Center.

After graduation in December 2012, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music with a Performance Option, Holian looks forward to attending graduate school in music and adding a bit of soccer coaching.
