Letra Hispanica is an institution that specializes in Spanish language and Hispanic culture. Their teaching method is based on an old motto originally said in Spanish “ enseñar deleitando”, which means teaching so that learning is a delight. Their hope is that everyone student learns not only theoretical knowledge but also knowledge based on real world experience.

This institution is located in Salamanca, which is a safe and peaceful city in central Spain, west of Madrid. Salamanca can be traveled from one side to the other in 30 minutes and has a very friendly population. Salamanca is a UNESCO World Heritage city known for its elegant architecture and ancient history. The city also harbors a vibrant student life and night scene. Any major can participate in this language-focused study abroad, and Spanish language skills are not required as language courses range from complete beginner to advanced. Students can tailor their program to meet their schedule and course requirements, depending on language proficiency.

Academic Year

MSUB students can study at Letra Hispanica year-round and pick dates that fit within their schedules. Program packages start at 4 weeks and can span to an entire year. The most popular program durations are 6 or 12 weeks in the summer. Students who study for a full semester can transfer back around 15 Spanish language credits.

Courses OfferedSpain

Letra Hispanica offers Spanish classes based upon the grade received on the placement test given upon arrival at the institution. They offer levels from initial(A1), basic(A2), intermediate(B1 and B2), advanced (C1), and  higher(C2). In total, students take 20 hours of classes per week.  Additionally, they offer classes about Volunteerism, Spanish Cinema, and Business Spanish. All classes offered at this institution are only taught in Spanish.

Host Family RoomAccommodations

Letra Hispanica offers a few different options for their students. One option is to stay with host family in a single or double room. Weekly laundry service is included along with the option of two to three meals per day. There is also an option for students to stay in residence halls for students. In addition, there is an option for staying in apartments, hotels, and hostels. Letra Hispanica will help make the arrangements for a $75 fee.


Cost to Attend

The price of classes are set based on the amount of weeks that the students will be attending as well as the type of accommodation is chosen. Costs range from 2,196€ (±$2,465) for a 4-week program + homestay to 7,168€ (±$8,040) for a full semester + homestay.

VisaSalamanca Church

Students may enter Spain without a visa for up to 3 months. It is very important that the students’ passport be valid for at least 3 to 6 months before entry.  For students that are studying for longer than 3 months, a Schengen visa is required. Students must apply for the visa in person at the Consulate General in San Francisco, CA, bringing with them their completed application, passport, State ID, proof of enrollment, financial documents, medical certificate, visa payment receipt, etc. The cost of the visa is a non-refundable $160. Spain recently changed its policies further to require visa recipients to pick up their visas in person, as well.

Health Insurance

To ensure comprehensive and quality coverage, all study abroad students are required to enroll in insurance that is provided through the designated Montana University System insurance provider. Please consult with the Study Abroad Coordinator for further information. This insurance is affordable with a typical semester averaging about $250.
