Week in Review
The Yellowjackets continued their domination
against opponents picking up two more wins last week. The
Jackets are a perfect 5-0 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
MSUB has also extended their winning streak to six-straight
games ranking the team first in school history for consecutive
games won. Of the six wins five were by way of shutout.
In Friday's 5-0 win over University of Mary, the
Jackets'
Sam Charles (Weymouth, England) scored a hat trick.
The Yellowjackets scored the eventual game-winning goal just
9:34 into the contest.
Scott
Dixon (Dorset, England) placed a corner kick in front of the
Marauders net where Charles headed the ball past Mary's keeper.
Chris
Andre (Billings) scored his third goal of the season and
teammate
Matt D'Hont (Rapid City, S.D.) wasted little time after
entering the game in the final nine minutes of play.
D'Hont scored with just 42 seconds left on the score clock
making it his second goal of the season in just 18 minutes of
playing time in the previous two games.
The Jackets opened the conference schedule with
a game against Western Washington University of Monday.
The Vikings, picked to finish third in the conference one spot
ahead of the Jackets, fell 2-1 in regulation. The
Yellowjackets used two first-half goals to bag the win.
Western Washington scored on a free-kick at the 50:43 mark and
nearly scored the equalizer with less than five minutes to play.
A well-placed corner kick was nearly headed in by the Vikings,
but the Jackets' Dixon kicked the ball out of range to hold on
for the win. Both Charles and
Jarred
Weisen (Great Falls) scored in the game. Charles' goal
was his eighth of the season and his fifth-straight game with at
least one goal tying him with Dustin Kono who did this in 2005.
The Yellowjackets are poised to make their first
appearance on the NSCAA Far West Regional rankings.
Western Washington, who the Jackets downed 2-1, are currently
ranked seventh in the region with Seattle University ranked
third. Leading the region is soccer powerhouse Seattle
Pacific University.
MSU Billings leads the conference in shots, points, goals,
assists per game, goals against average and shutouts.
Individually the Jackets' Charles ranks first in points (17),
goals (8), and game-winning goals (2) while Andre is ranked
third in the GNAC for goals (3) and is tied for first with his
teammate for game-winning goals. Dixon ranks first for
assists (4) and goalkeeper Sander Tollefson (Missoula) is first
in goals against average (0.25), save percentage (.900), and
shutouts (3).
The Yellowjackets have also stepped onto the
national stage ranking 15th in the nation for scoring offense
(3.62), first for goals against average (0.00), first for
shutout percentage (1.0), and first for save percentage (1.0).
Individually Charles ranks fifth in the nation for Division II
in points per game (3.75) and fourth for goals per game (1.75).
Andre is ranked 103rd for points per game (1.5) and 67th for
goals per game (0.75). D'Hont is 76th in goals per game
(0.67) with Dixon and
Josh
Hernandez (Palmdale, Calif.) rank 20th and 80th respectively
for assists per game (0.75, 0.50). In goal, Tollefson
ranks first in the nation for goals against average (0.00) and
for save percentage (1.0).

The Coaches
Dan McNally, Head Coach
The 2007 season will be Dan McNally's third as the head men's soccer coach at MSU Billings. His teams are 10-24-2 overall in two seasons. In 2005-2006 the Yellowjackets had their best success in the classroom with the men's soccer program leading the Heartland Conference with a 3.32 grade point average.
McNally came to MSU Billings from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., where he was the top assistant coach for four years.
McNally began his playing career at Bury FC (English 2nd Division), where he was an Apprentice until 1996. In the summer of 1996 McNally moved to the United States to attend Embry-Riddle University where he played soccer.
During his time at Embry-Riddle, he led the Eagles to the 1998 FSC Tournament Championship and the 1999 FSC Regular Season Championship. At Embry-Riddle, McNally was named All-Conference, All-Region and Honorable Mention All-America. He was selected as team MVP his freshman and sophomore years and was a team captain as a senior.
McNally holds NSCAA National and Advanced National coaching licenses, passing both courses with distinction.
McNally graduated in 2000 from Embry-Riddle University with a BS in Communications.
Assistant Coach Adam Spinelli
2007-2008 will be Spinelli's second year as the Yellowjackets' men's soccer assistant. He graduated from Nova Southeastern University with degrees in Business Administration and Sports and Recreation Management. He was a three-year college starter, playing two seasons at Southern New Hampshire University and one at Nova Southeastern.
In 2002 at Southern New Hampshire, Spinelli was named the Northeast-10 Freshman of the Year. He earned third team all-conference honors and was a starter for the Penmen in the NCAA Division II National Championship Game. At Nova Southeastern Spinelli was named to the All-South Region Academic Team and was an Academic All-America Nominee.
Spinelli currently holds a USSF National “C” license and a NSCAA National Goalkeeping license.
