MSUB Women’s Golf Makes History at Ryder Cup; Men Make Strong Showing
BILLINGS, Mont. – The Montana State Billings women’s golf team made history Friday as it defeated Rocky Mountain College in the annual RMC/MSUB Ryder Cup. The Yellowjackets won 6.5 points to 5.5 points.
I am very proud of our women,” head coach Shawn O’Brien said. “They played well today and we had several players come from behind playing with confidence and poise to either win or tie their matches. For the second straight day, Liz Tikriti and Hannah McPherson played awesome. Both are true freshmen and played very well.”
The women won three matches, tied three and lost two to beat Rocky for the first time in the RMC/MSUB Ryder Cup. McPherson sunk a six-foot putt on the 18th hole to give MSUB the win in front of a large crowd.
On the men’s side, MSUB won two matches, tied two and lost four.
“We played very well today, but Rocky played just a little better,” O’Brien said. “KC Kindle and Travis Gates, along with a number of players played extraordinary as Jeff Allen shot under par, but Rocky was on target today and I give them a lot of credit.”
The format today was straight match play as Thursday’s format was best ball. The event will conclude in the Spring (Apr. 1-2) at Briarwood Golf Course.
