MSUB XC Teams Compete at Montana State

BOZEMAN, Mont. – The
Montana State Billings women’s cross country team ran
another tight grouping to finish ninth at the Montana State
Invitational on Saturday. The Lady Yellowjackets were paced
by Mykel Ler’s 64th place finish. MSUB finished 39 points
behind Idaho State, and every team ahead of the Jackets in
the 13-team race was a Division I team.
Ler (Sidney) covered the
three-mile course in 19:30, over two and a half minutes
faster than her time last week in South Dakota. The
Jackets’ top five runners were within 23 seconds of each
other, and only 1:05 separated the team’s top eight
finishers.
MSUB’s top five placers
were freshmen. Following Ler were Katie Thiel (Powell,
Wyo.) in 65th place in 19:34, Diana Stanley (Miles City) in
66th in 19:37, Malori Woodford (Mosby) in 71st in 19:49, and
Morgan Streeter (Ryegate) in 72nd in 19:53. The
Yellowjackets had 11 runners competing, including Cierra
Dornfeld (Woodbury, Minn.) in 75th in 20:12, Sarah Jackson
(Bozeman) in 78th in 20:27, Colleen Dalimata (Columbia
Falls) in 81st in 20:35, Erin Mueller (Billings) in 90th in
21:23, Kym Island (Columbia Falls) in 97th in 22:21, and
Erin Gannon (Yankton, S.D.) in 98th in 22:39.
The women’s team race was
won by Utah State, who edged out Montana 59-73. Top
individual honors went to Weber State’s Sariah Long with a
time of 16:38.
The Yellowjacket men
finished 11th in the 11-team men’s five-mile. Freshman Ryan
Ceynar (Glendive) placed 79th with a time of 28:24, forty
seconds faster than he ran last week. Jarred Rensvold (Wolf
Point) placed 85th in 28:52, Kelley Miller (Glendive) placed
93rd in 29:29, James Hopkins (Helena) placed 112th in 33:41,
and Joe Houghton placed 116th in 35:45.
Weber State won the team
title with 29 points, out legging Montana by 47 points. The
men’s individual race was won by Mark Korir of Wyoming in
24:14. |
