Stats
SEATTLE, Wash. – Eleventh-ranked Seattle
University scored twice in the first half and held on to beat
Montana State Billings 2-1 in women’s soccer on Saturday. The
defeat handed the Yellowjackets their first losing season since
2003, dropping them to 9-10-1.
Seattle, which had likely already locked up
a spot in the NCAA Tournament, won for the 15th time in the last
17 games to finish the regular season 17-3-0. The Redhawks’
only losses during that span were to unbeaten Seattle Pacific.
SPU and SU finished 1-2 in the Great Northwest Athletic
Conference and are ranked 1-2 in the NCAA Far West Region.
The Redhawks got on the board in the 29th
minute when Kate Edstrom scored her first goal of the season.
Edstrom was assisted by Kara Kuttler. Seattle netted the
eventual game winner in the 37th minute when Marryann Boddy
scored her fourth goal of the season, assisted by Mickey Pelland.
The Yellowjackets, who were out-shot 22-4
in the game, narrowed the gap in the 63rd minute when Chelsea
Libby took a cross from Amy Stephens and one touched it into the
net for her third goal of the year. The Jackets managed just
one shot after Libby’s goal, an attempt by Stephens in the 88th
minute that went wide.
Brittney Knudtzon, who hadn’t played since
Sept. 22, was in goal for the entire 90 minutes for the
Yellowjackets. The freshman made nine saves and finished the
season with a 5-3-1 record. Seattle’s Kaitlyn Jackson made one
save in the win. |
