Stats
LACEY, Wash. – Saint Martin’s scored a pair
of first half goals and held on to stun Montana State Billings
2-0 on Friday in GNAC women’s soccer. The Saints entered the
game winless in the conference.
The Yellowjackets fell to 8-7-1 overall and
4-5-1 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. The Saints
won for the first time since Sept. 1 to improve to 1-9-0 in the
GNAC and 2-14-0 overall.
“Give credit to Saint Martin’s,” said
Yellowjacket head coach Don Trentham. “They came out to play at
the beginning of game and capitalized on their chances. It’s
hard to recover from being down 2-0 at halftime.”
The Saints got first half goals from Ashley
Biral and Kayci Donatelli. Jordan
Fenwick (Boise, Idaho) gave up the two first half goals and
made two saves before being replaced by Kaily
Hoffman (Fort Collins, Colo.) in the second half. Hoffman
had one save.
The Yellowjackets had several scoring
chances in the second half, but hit the crossbar three times and
the post once. MSUB out-shot the Saints 13-2 in the second half
and 18-10 in the game, but the Jackets failed to convert any of
their eight shots on goal. Saints keeper Breanna Klasen made
eight saves in the game, five coming in the second half.
The Yellowjacket wrap up the road trip on
Sunday at Western Oregon. MSUB defeated the Wolves 3-0 on Sept.
13 in Billings. Western had won three of their last four games
entering Friday’s conference match up with 11th-ranked Seattle
University, which they lost 1-0 in overtime. The Jackets will
host Northwest Nazarene on Oct. 25 and 2nd-ranked Seattle
Pacific on Oct. 27 to close out the home schedule. They finish
the season Nov. 3 at Seattle. |
