MSUB’s Larsen Grabs GNAC Honor
BILLINGS, Mont. – Montana State Billings
senior Janica Larsen was named the Great Northwest Athletic
Conference player of the week on Monday. Larsen, a defender
from Salt Lake City, helped lead the Yellowjackets to a 2-1
record last week.
MSUB played three road games in four days.
The Jackets defeated Adams State 3-1 on Thursday and Eastern New
Mexico 5-0 on Saturday. Their only loss was a 1-0 overtime
defeat at Fort Lewis, one of the top teams in the RMAC, on
Sunday.
The Yellowjacket defense allowed just two
goals in 274:13 for a goals-against average of 0.66. That was
done with a pair of freshmen goalkeepers splitting time in net.
Opponents had just 13 shots on goal in the three games.
“Janica has been a three-year player at
outside back and is making the transition to center back,” said
MSUB coach Don Trentham. “She was the anchor of the defense
last weekend, and she was the only player to play every minute
of three games in four days.”
The Yellowjackets have this week off. They
host Regis University, another of the RMAC’s top teams, on Labor
Day, September 3. |
