Marauders Hand Jackets Road Loss

BISMARCK, N.D. – Five Marauders scored in
double figures to run past the Montana State Billings Lady
Jackets 90-67 Saturday in Bismarck, N.D. in non-conference
action. The loss drops the Yellowjackets to 3-4 overall while
University of Mary improves to 5-3.
The Marauders’ Nicci Landecck made a
traditional three-point play after being fouled by MSUB to score
the first points of the game at the 17-minute mark. Mary
continued to lead throughout the first half with the Jackets
pulling within one possession on five different occasions. A
layup by Kristin Bear with 3:42 left in the half opened up a
10-point lead for the Marauders. Dani Henderson (Reed Point) hit a jump shot with under a
minute left in the half to settle for an 8-point deficit heading
into the locker room.
Despite strong scoring efforts by Henderson
and Alira Carpenter (Lewistown) in the second half, the
Marauders pulled away to lead by as many as 25 before icing the
win.
The Lady Jackets were led by Henderson’s
career-high 19 points and nine rebounds. Henderson was 6-of-12
from the floor and 2-of-2 from behind the arc. Carpenter netted
14 of her 15 points in the second half of play shooting 4-of-11
from the field and a perfect 3-of-3 from long range. Shantell Marquis (Cascade) added nine points with teammate Kayla
Ryan (Big Timber) chipping in seven.
Sonny Schulz scored a game-high 22 points
of 9-of-17 shooting for the Marauders. Schulz also nabbed a
game-high four steals. Kayla Rogers and Landdeck added 16
points a piece with Anna Skala and Kristin Bear netting 12 and
11 points respectively.
The Yellowjackets shot 39 percent from the
field and connected on 5-of-11 attempts from long range, all
coming in the second half of play, for 46 percent. The team was
22-of-29 from the charity stripe and were out-rebounded 37-28.
The Lady Yellowjackets are idle until
December 28 and 29 when they travel to Rohnert Park, Calif. for
two games. On Friday, the Jackets will face host team Sonoma
State at 7:00 p.m. PST before playing in a neutral contest on
Saturday against Chico State. Tip off is slated for 5:00 p.m.
