Lady Jackets Fall to Minnesota-Moorhead
in Season Opener

GRAND FORKS, N.D.- The Montana State
Billings women’s basketball team dropped its season opener 89-65
to Minnesota State-Moorhead Friday in a neutral game at the
University of North Dakota Classic. The Lady Jackets are 0-1,
while the Dragons are 1-0.
Junior guard Alira Carpenter’s (Lewistown) shooting was right on the mark
for the Lady Jackets scoring a game-high 26 points. Carpenter
was 7-of-15 from the floor, 4-of-6 from long range and was a
perfect 8-of-8 from the free throw line. Shantell Marquis (Cascade) and Jetton Meadors (Billings) each added nine and eight points
respectively with Marquis making a game-high four steals.
The Dragons had four players score in
double figures and were led by Katie Walden’s 19 points. Walden
was 8-of-15 from the field and 3-of-6 from the perimeter.
Jessica Fesenmaier netted 16 points with Allison Swenson and
Shelly Soule each adding 14.
As a team the Yellowjackets shot 20-of-57
from the floor and were an efficient 40 percent from three-point
range connecting on 8-of-20. The team was out-rebounded by the
Dragons 44-28.
The Lady Jackets wrap up the
tournament with a game against perennial power University of
North Dakota on Saturday. Tip off is set for 6:00 p.m. CST.
The Jackets open the season at home November 23 and 24 when they
host the Chinook Wireless/Clock Tower Inn Classic. Teams in
attendance will include, Regis University, University of Mary
and Northwest Missouri State. |
