Lehman Wins Twice at Montana Invite

MISSOULA, Mont. – Montana State Billings
senior Heidi Lehman won twice on Friday to advance to the
semifinals at the University of Montana Tennis Invite. Lehman,
a senior from Billings, knocked off a pair of Division I
opponents and was the only Yellowjacket men’s or women’s player
to advance in the winner’s bracket.
Lehman opened the singles tournament with a
6-0, 6-1 win over Montana’s Kate Ness. In the quarterfinals,
Lehman downed Idaho’s Natalie Kirch, 6-1, 6-3. Lehman will meet
Montana’s Martyna Nowak in one women’s semifinal on Saturday.
The other semifinal will feature Rebecca Bran of Montana and
Laura Leoni of Idaho.
Three Yellowjacket women are still alive in
the singles loser bracket. Anne-Sophie Tredet defeated Ness in
loser out action and will receive a bye into the next round
where she will face one of her teammates. Marta Borges and
Victoria Fernandez will go head to head on Saturday for the
right to play Tredet.
In doubles play, three Yellowjacket women’s
teams fell with each losing to a pair from Montana. All three
MSUB teams will play in the loser bracket Saturday. Fernandez
and Mollie McAlpine will face Lehman and Tredet on one side of
the bracket. Borges and Johnna Beatty will meet Montana’s Cara
Lehman and Jessica Souza.
No Yellowjacket men’s players or doubles
pairs posted wins. The tournament will continue Saturday and
Sunday at Robert O. Lindsay Tennis Center in Missoula. |
