Sweeps Central Washington in Season Finale

BILLINGS, Mont. – The Montana State Billings
softball team ended the regular season with a sweep of Central
Washington Saturday afternoon at Cenex Stadium, 6-0 and 5-2.
With the victories, the Yellowjackets improve to 28-21 on the
year and 16-8 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.
MSUB, which started the season 6-15, came on
strong going 22-6 the rest of the way.
In the opener, Jenna Haacke, Terina Stacks
and Stephanie Gosselin each had two hits to lead the team in the
6-0 victory. Lisa
Moore (12-5) went the distance in the circle, scattering four
hits, with three walks and seven strikeouts.
The Yellowjackets opened the scoring in the
bottom of the first courtesy of two costly errors by the
Wildcats on a RBI single by Davis for a 1-0 lead.
In the third, Stacks lined a RBI single for a 2-0 lead.
MSUB plated four runs in the fourth helped
out by two more CWU errors.
Gosselin led-off the inning with a solo home run followed
by a two RBI single by Jessica Frank and she later scored on an
error for a 6-0 lead.
In the nightcap, Kelly Parsons singled to
left field in the bottom of the second, scoring Stacks for a 1-0
lead. The Wildcats
tied the game in the third with a RBI single to left.
The Jackets regained the lead in the fourth
as Crystal Bentley scored Alyssa Frank on a single to right
field for a 2-1 lead.
Just as before, CWU tied the game in the sixth on a solo
home run and began to take some momentum.
A double by Jessica Frank in the bottom of
the inning plated the first of three runs as the Jackets
regained control.
Haacke scored two runs later in the inning with a single up the
middle for a 5-2 lead.
CWU had two hits in the top of the seventh,
but were unable to score.
Haacke went 3 for 4 in the second game with
two RBIs to lead the team.
Rebekah Tsatsa began the game for the Jackets, but
Lindsey Trenary came in relief and picked up the victory.
Tsatsa went 5.1 innings, seven hits, two earned runs and
a walk. Trenary
allowed just two hits in her 1.2 innings to close the door. |
