SEATTLE, Wash. – The Montana State Billings
men’s soccer team had to settle for a draw against No. 4
nationally ranked Seattle Pacific. The Yellowjackets and
Falcons battled to a 1-1 decision Thursday night in Seattle.
The Jackets are 7-0-1 overall and 3-0-1 in conference play
following the tie, while the Falcons are 4-0-4, and 1-0-1
in the GNAC.
The Jackets’ Sam Charles (Weymouth, England) continued to shine offensively scoring
MSUB’s lone goal of the game in the 78th minute.
Charles headed the ball into the net from the far post. Chris
Cornish (Surrey, England) picked up the assist. Charles,
who already holds the GNAC record for consecutive games with at
least one goal scored, added to his record, making it the eighth
game in which the sophomore forward has scored.
Seattle Pacific, in a last ditch effort,
scored the equalizer with just 1:07 left in regulation. Matt
Kemper scored using a header from five yards off teammate Doug
Whitney’s free kick to send the game into overtime. Playing
extra minutes has become a regularity for the Falcons as
the game marked Seattle Pacific’s fifth overtime game and
the fourth resulting in a tie.
Both the Jackets and the Falcons had 11
shots with MSU Billings holding a 6-5 advantage on shots on
goals. Sander Tollefson (Missoula) made three saves while the
Falcons’ Kellen Rosten recorded five.
The Yellowjackets travel to Bellingham,
Wash., for a conference game against Western Washington
University (3-4-0, 0-2-0) on Saturday, Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. before
heading back to Seattle to face Seattle University (6-2-0,
1-1-0) on Monday, Sept. 24. Kick off is 2:30 p.m. |
