BILLINGS, Mont. – One
second half goal is all it took for Montana State Billings
to knock-off No. 21 ranked Seattle University Friday in
Billings. The Yellowjackets continue their unprecedented
season moving to 6-0-0 overall and a perfect 2-0-0 in the
Great Northwest Athletic Conference. The defending
conference champion Redhawks dropped to 5-2-0, and 0-1-0 in
league play. Of the Jackets’ six wins, five have been by
way of shutout with the Yellowjackets conceding just one
goal through the season thus far while scoring 16 against
their opponents.
Scoreless in the first
half, both teams controlled the ball evenly across the
field. As the clock was winding down toward halftime, the
Yellowjackets’ Jeremy DeHerrera (Kalispell) punched a ball through two
defenders to Jarred
Weisen (Great Falls). Weisen fired the ball into the
Redhawks' net only to be called back offside.

With just a combined six
shots on goal, the Yellowjackets finally broke through at
the 68:12 mark. Deep in Yellowjacket territory, Greg
McKeever (Kirkland, Wash.) drilled a free kick down the
length of the field that was picked up by Sam
Charles (Weymouth, England) in the Redhawks’ box.
Moving left to right Charles sailed the ball past Seattle’s
keeper drawing an eruption from the Jackets’ bench.
Charles’ ninth goal of the season proved to be the eventual
game-winner.
"It was a famous win for
us today," said Yellowjacket head coach Dan McNally.
"We fully deserved to win, and everyone associated with our
program should be excited and proud. Our central
midfielders Tom Milroy and Justin Hoskins played magnificent
for us, and I am very happy with the win."
With less than one minute
left in regulation, Seattle forced Yellowjacket keeper Sander Tollefson (Missoula) to make a diving save, his
fourth of the game, to earn the win. The Redhawks
out-shot the Jackets 11-8 with a 4-2 advantage on shots on goal.
The Yellowjackets look for
win number seven against Saint Martin’s University (2-6-0,
0-1-0) on Sunday, September 16, at the College of
Technology. The game is slated for 1:30 p.m. following the
Lady Jackets’ game at 11:00. Sunday’s game is part of Futbol Frenzy and features a BBQ lunch between 11:00 and
2:00. The lunch is free for all MSUB students with a
student ID. The general public may purchase lunch for
$7.50.
