Charles’ Tabbed GNAC Player of the Year
BILLINGS, Mont. – The Montana State
Billings men’s soccer team capped off its season of numerous
accomplishments by having eight players named to the Great
Northwest Athletic Conference All-Star team.
Sam Charles,
a sophomore forward from Weymouth, England, was voted
unanimously as the GNAC Player of the Year. This follows last
season’s honor of being named the Freshman of the Year in the
Jackets former conference, the Heartland. Charles finished the
season as the GNAC’s regular-season leading scorer with 41
points. His 19 goals and 41 points rank second highest in GNAC
conference history. He also led the conference with seven
game-winning goals. Charles ranks first in school history for
goals scored in a single season, total points in a single
season, and for consecutive games with at least one goal scored
at eight.
Junior midfielder, Justin
Hoskins (Billings) was also named to the All-Conference
first team. Hoskins’ teammates Scott Dixon,
a freshman midfielder from Dorset, England and Chris
Cornish, a midfielder from Surrey, England were named to the
second team.
Greg
McKeever, a senior defender from Kirkland, Wash., was named
to the Honorable Mention team along with teammates Tom Milroy,
a freshman defender from Aberdeen, Scotland, Josh
Hernandez, a senior defender from Palmdale, Calif., and Sander
Tollefson, a sophomore goal keeper from Missoula.
As a team, the Yellowjackets posted a
13-4-1 overall record. In the team’s first season in the GNAC
they were 5-2-1 in league play. MSUB broke the school record
for goals scored in a single season (46), scoring average
(2.55), goals against average (0.776), shutout percentage
(0.50), shutouts (9), and consecutive wins (8). The team also
went unbeaten at home this season going 8-0-0.
