ELLENSBURG, Wash. – Central Washington posted a doubleheader sweep of Montana State Billings Sunday afternoon, 11-1 and 6-1 for the four-game weekend sweep. With the losses, the Yellowjackets fall to 4-16 on the year and 0-8 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.
For the third game in the series, the Yellowjackets took the early lead as Matt Kakalecik led-off the second inning with a solo home run, his second of the season. The lead was short-lived as CWU scored two runs in the second, third and fourth innings to take a 6-1 lead. The Wildcats added four runs in the seventh and went on for an 11-1 win.
Kakalecik went 2 for 4 in the game with the lone RBI and run. Cole Pryor also had two hits. The Jacket defense committed four errors in the game, while CWU had three miscues. Steve Scott went six innings for the Yellowjackets in the losing effort, allowing eight hits, six runs – four earned, two walks and seven strikeouts.
Also for the third time in as many games, the Wildcats used just one pitcher, who went all nine innings, allowing seven hits, one earned run and 11 strikeouts.
In the nightcap, the Wildcats jumped out to an early 4-0 lead through three innings and never looked back en route to a 6-1 win. Matt Schoonover had a RBI single as four different MSUB batters had hits.
James Lester went the distance allowing eight hits, six runs – three earned, three walks and four strikeouts. CWU again had a complete game pitching performance.
The Yellowjackets have their home opener Tuesday at noon at Pirtz Field against Colorado Christian in a non-conference doubleheader and a single game against Colorado Christian on Wednesday as well. |
