Ryegate’s Streeter Signs to Run at MSUB
(5/3/07)
BILLINGS, MT – Montana
State-Billings track and cross-country coach Dave
Coppock announced Thursday that Morgan Streeter has
signed to run for the Yellowjackets next season.
Streeter is currently a senior at Ryegate High
School.
“When she visited our campus
late last fall, we took her on a five-mile run on a
miserable, windy, cold, drizzly night,” said
Coppock. “And, being a Montana ranch girl, she just
ran right through it unfazed. She has that kind of
mental toughness that great distance runners
possess.”
Streeter has lettered in
basketball, track, cross-country, and volleyball for
the Blue Demons. She was a team MVP and
all-conference selection in basketball and earned
academic all-state recognition in both basketball
and track. Last fall Streeter won the Class “C”
state cross-country championship, finishing the 5K
course in 20:24. She outpaced the second place
runner by 30 seconds. Streeter led the Blue Demons
to a second place team finish at the state
cross-country championships in 2005 and a fifth
place finish in 2006.
“Anytime I can get a state
cross-country champion here, I feel very fortunate,”
said Coppock. “I think Morgan is really untested
and is far from reaching her potential. Coming from
a small high school, she was spread pretty thin
while competing in a lot of sports. If we get a
chance to focus on her running, I believe
she’ll rapidly excel at the collegiate level. She’s
a top-notch student and a very hard worker,
qualities which translate well to college
athletics.”
The Yellowjackets open their
fall cross-country training camp on September 1 and
the 2007 season on September 8 at the South Dakota
Tech Invitational. The Jackets’ first indoor track
meet is scheduled to be the Black Hills State Fall
Classic in Spearfish, SD. |
