BILLINGS, MT – Although it was
a cold and rainy day in Billings, the Montana State-Billings
women’s soccer team was hot, trouncing Texas A&M – International
18-1 Saturday at College of Technology Field. The Yellowjackets
remain unbeaten at 9-0-0, while the Dustdevils fell to 1-3-0.
The Lady Jackets gave an
unscheduled clinic in scoring goals against the Dustdevils
posting eight goals in the first half followed by 10 second half
goals. Senior
Ally
Stroup (Ojai, CA) and freshman
Jelisa Guy (Kalispell, MT) each scored a hat-trick with 10
other teammates contributing with goals. Stroup started the
scoring barrage on a short cross in front of the net from
Brittney Sandau (Billings, MT). At the 11:17 mark,
Sara Gress (Boise, ID) scored off a corner kick set in place
by Guy. At 26:13 the Dustdevils’ Stephanie Webb scored her
team’s only goal of the day on a penalty kick. Webb fired the
ball just right of Jacket goalkeeper
Megan Plank (Phoenix, AZ).
Six goals were scored in the
first 10 minutes of the second half. The first four of which
were from the Jackets’ Guy. With 25 minutes remaining in
regulation, the Yellowjacket bench replaced most starters on the
field to gain valuable experience. At 67:13,
Emily English (Whitefish, MT) scored her first collegiate
goal.
Jenny Mollenforf (Green River, WY) and
Caitlin Differding (Sammamish, WA) picked up the double
assist.
Danielle Ritter (Great Falls, MT) and Differeding also
scored their first collegiate goals just 1:40 apart in the final
minutes of play.
Guy has moved in the No. 1
spot in school history with the most points scored in a game
with 14 and her four assists ties her for first in most assists
in a single game. Stroup continued her streak of games with at
least one point scored with nine. She also picked up eight
points in today’s win.
As a team the Yellowjackets
moved into first in school history for points scored, number of
goals scored, and number of assists in a single game. Although
the shutout minute streak ended on the made penalty kick, Plank
picked up her 37th career win and made five saves in
the game.
The Lady Jackets play
cross-town rival Rocky Mountain College Wednesday, September 20
at Daylis Stadium. The game will be played under the lights
with kickoff set for 7:00 p.m. |
