Regional Poll
BILLINGS, MT – For the first
time in the program’s history, the Montana State-Billings
women’s soccer team is nationally ranked. The Yellowjackets,
off to a school-record 9-0-0 start, are ranked 18th
in NCAA Division II by the National Soccer Coaches Association
of America.
The Yellowjackets were one of
five teams to move into the NSCAA top 25 after being unranked a
week ago. Massachusetts-Lowell (5-1-2) made the biggest jump
from unranked, climbing all the way to 15th.
Nebraska-Omaha (7-0-0) is the top-ranked team in the country,
followed by Metro State (9-0-0), Carson-Newman (7-0-0), Grand
Valley State (7-0-0) and West Chester (6-0-0).
MSU Billings is also ranked
third in this week’s NSCAA Midwest Region poll. They climbed
from fifth last week and are one of three unbeaten teams
remaining in the region. Metro State is ranked first in the
region, and West Texas A&M (8-0-0) is ranked second. Four of
the five Heartland Conference women’s soccer teams are
regionally ranked by the NSCAA. The NSCAA polls have no bearing
on seeding for the NCAA Tournament.
The Yellowjackets play two
non-conference games this week starting Wednesday when they play
Rocky Mountain College at Daylis Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled
for 7:00 p.m., and the game will be audio webcast on the
Yellowjacket Athletics website. MSUB will travel to Missoula on
Friday to take on University of Montana. That game starts at
5:00 p.m. and can be heard on the Grizzlies’ website at
www.montanagrizzlies.com.
