Lady Jacket Soccer Slips in NCAA Poll
(10/25/06)
BILLINGS, MT – The Montana
State-Billings women’s soccer team fell from No. 4 to No. 5 in
this week’s NCAA Midwest Region poll. The Yellowjackets, who
have been ranked as high as No. 1, this year, are 13-5-1
overall. Metropolitan State retained the top spot for the
second-consecutive poll.
The last NCAA regional poll
was released on October 11 with no poll published on October
18. Wednesday’s poll will be the final poll of the regular
season. The next rankings, which will be released on October
30, will determine the teams that qualify for the NCAA
Tournament. In women’s soccer, the top four teams in each of
the NCAA’s eight regions qualify for the NCAA Tourney.
The Yellowjackets were 2-1 on
their most recent road swing to Texas. The lone loss came in
double overtime at St. Edward’s University, this week’s No.
2-ranked team in the region. The Yellowjackets will have one
last chance to make their case for one of the four regional
tournament berths when they host St. Edward’s this Saturday at
1:00 p.m. While a win does not guarantee the Jackets a spot in
the NCAA Tournament, a loss most likely eliminates any chances
the Jackets have of receiving an invitation.
