BILLINGS, MT – The Montana
State-Billings women’s soccer team closes out the regular season
on Saturday with one of the biggest games in the program’s
history. The Yellowjackets will host St. Edward’s University at
1:00 p.m. at the MSUB College of Technology in a game that could
have postseason implications. The Hilltoppers (16-2-1) enter
the game ranked second in the NCAA Midwest Region. The
Yellowjackets (13-5-1) are ranked fifth. The top four teams in
next week’s rankings will qualify for the NCAA Tournament. St.
Ed’s defeated the Yellowjackets 1-0 in double overtime last week
in Austin, TX.
Before the start of the game,
the three Yellowjacket seniors will be honored. They include
Megan Plank (Phoenix, AZ), Ally Stroup (Ojai, CA) and Jenny
Moellendorf (Green River, WY). Plank is the all-time school
record holder for goalkeeping wins, shutouts, saves, minutes
played, and goals against average. Stroup is the all-time
school record holder for points, assists, goals, and game
winning goals. Saturday will be her school-record 74th
consecutive start. Moellendorf will play in her 73rd
career game, second-most in school history behind only Stroup.
At halftime the Yellowjackets
will recognize the program’s first All-Decade Team. The women’s
soccer program at MSUB started in 1996, and the 2005 season was
the program’s tenth. Following last season coaches and players,
both current and former, voted on the Lady Jackets’ All-Decade
Team.
Named to the team were four
defenders, four midfielders, two forwards, and a goalkeeper.
Each player selected to the team had to play at least two
seasons at MSUB and cannot be a current player. A new
All-Decade Team will be picked every five years, making this
year’s senior class eligible in 2011.
The former players who will be
introduced as the first All-Decade Team on Saturday will be
Gretchen Kaus (GK, 1999-2000), Lacey Albrent (D, 2004-2005),
Kristen Johnson (D, 1999-2000), Vicky McCarthey (D, 1999,
2001-2002), Mandy Reed (D, 2000-2003), Megan Beckstead (MF,
2003-2004), Candy Cherry (MF, 2001-2004), Stephanie Clark (MF,
2001-2004), Margot Merrill-Johnson (MF, 2001-2004), Abby Farmer
(F, 1997-2001), and Sara Otis (F, 2000-2003). |
