Jacket Golfers Climb One Spot at Pepsi Lion Invite (3/20/07)
Final Results
COMMERCE, TX – The Montana
State-Billings women’s golf team shaved 10-strokes
off their round two total to climb into thirteenth place
in the 15-team field Tuesday at the Pepsi Lion
Invitational hosted by Texas A&M – Commerce.
Oklahoma City University dominated
the team competition gliding to top honors with a 315
and 310 for a combined 625. After trailing Oklahoma
City by just one-stoke after the first 18-holes,
Redlands Community College was 12 strokes off the pace
to finish second at the invite with a combined team
total of 637. Rounding out third place was St. Edward’s
University with rounds of 328 and 322 for a combined
650. Host team Texas A&M – Commerce shot steady to
remain in a tie for fifth with rounds of 344 and 342 for
a 686.
Incarnate Word held thirteenth
place following round one but added six strokes to their
day two total to finish fourteenth with a 766, while the
Lady Jackets shot rounds of 382 and 372 to move into
thirteenth place.
Toni Pyrum from Oklahoma City
University held onto the top spot in the individual
competition but will have to share medal honors with
Allison Kinser of St. Edward’s University who used a
three-over 75 in round two to move from second into a
tie for first. Pyrum shot rounds of 77 and 76 for a
nine-over 153. Grace Jeong and Tamara Campbell carded a
12-over 156 to tie for third.
Jessica Thompson, an independent
player from St. Gregory, slipped from second after round
one all the way to a four-way tie for twelfth with
rounds of 78 and 85 for a 163. The Lady Jackets’ Emily
Maag (Colstrip, MT) shaved five-strokes off her
first round total 89, to climb from a tie for
forty-second to thirty-third with a combined 173 for the
competition.
The Lady Jackets continue their
season at the Grand Canyon Invite hosted by Grand Canyon
University in Phoenix, Arizona March 26 and 27.
