Lady Jackets End Home Schedule with Sweep

BILLINGS, MT – For the
second-straight day, the Montana State-Billings volleyball team
swept Oklahoma Panhandle State, 3-0. It was the home finale for
the Yellowjackets, who improved to 21-4 overall and 8-0 in the
Heartland Conference. OPSU dropped to 2-27, 0-6.
After a quick match at
Friday’s Senior Night, Yellowjacket coach Pa’ulasi Matavao let
the young players see plenty of action Saturday afternoon. MSUB
still controlled the match from start to finish, however,
winning 30-15, 30-22, 30-20. The Jackets out-hit the Aggies
.250 to .029 and had 27 more kills in the match.
Ali Watson
(Calgary, AB) and
Alicia Cazemier (Vauxhall, AB) led the Yellowjackets with 13
kills apiece. Watson had an attack percentage of .400 and
Cazemier hit .455. Both players also had two blocks.
Jessica Bratton (Casper, WY) and
Jill
Trabing (Buffalo, WY) each knocked down six kills apiece for
the Jackets.
Nicole
Kruse (Huntley, MT) had a match-high 11 digs.
Taylor
Faught (Billings, MT) handed out a career-high 22 assists.
MSU Billings had a season-high 15 service aces in the match.
Watson led all players with four. Cazemier and Trabing each had
three aces, and Kruse added two.
The Aggies were led by Amber
McKinney’s eight kills and nine digs. Molly Woodhall added
seven kills and six digs. Cheryl Coldwell had nine digs and 13
assists.
The Yellowjackets close out
the regular season next weekend in San Antonio when they take on
second-place St. Mary’s University. All the Jackets need in
order to claim the No. 1 seed in the Heartland Conference
Championship Tournament is a split of the two matches against
the Rattlers. MSUB will host the HLC Tourney on November 3 and
4 at Alterowitz Gym. Friday will feature semifinal matches at
3:00 and 6:00 p.m. The championship match will be at 7:00 p.m.
on Saturday. |
