MSUB Volleyball Slides Three Spots in NCAA Poll (11/1/06)
BILLINGS, MT – Since the last
poll released, the Montana
State-Billings volleyball team has won every match to no avail
as the Lady Jackets continued its downward slide from No. 7 to
No. 10 in this week’s NCAA Southwest Region volleyball poll.
The Lady Jackets finished the regular season 23-4 and a perfect
10-0 in Heartland Conference play.
The next rankings released by
the NCAA will be November 5 when the Volleyball Committee
decides the top eight qualifiers for a berth to the NCAA
Tournament. The Jackets best hopes for a trip to the Big Dance
will come from winning the Heartland Conference Tournament
hosted by MSU Billings November 3 and 4. Each conference
tournament champion receives an automatic berth to the NCAA
Tournament. The Yellowjackets had already clinched the No. 1
seed in the conference and closed its regular season last week
sweeping St. Mary’s University in three-game matches.
West Texas A&M (28-3) remains
in the drivers seat followed by Western New Mexico (25-5) who
moved up two spots from No. 4 to No. 2. Mesa State (15-13) made
the biggest jump climbing all the way from the No. 9 position to
No. 3. They are followed by Abilene Christian (18-9),
Nebraska-Kearney (26-6), Metro State (16-9), Fort Lewis (20-8),
Regis (16-12), UC-Colorado Springs (14-13), and MSUB (23-4).
The Yellowjackets host Dallas
Baptist (17-14, 7-2), St. Mary’s (18-15, 5-5), and St. Edward’s
(7-23, 5-5) November 3 and 4 for the 2006 Heartland Conference
Championship. No. 2 seed Dallas Baptist plays the No. 3 seed
St. Mary’s Friday at 3:00 p.m. St. Edward’s who is seeded fourth
will meet the No. 1 seed Yellowjackets in the late game starting
at 6:00 p.m. on November 3. The championship match is set for
November 4 at 7:00 p.m.
