Bengals Blast Lady Jackets

POCATELLO, ID –Idaho State scored
three runs in the bottom of the first inning and never
looked back in beating Montana State-Billings 8-1 Friday
afternoon in non-conference softball action. The second
game of the doubleheader was rained out in the second
inning with the Yellowjackets leading 3-0. Weather
permitting, the same teams will meet for a doubleheader
on Saturday starting at 10:30 a.m.
The Bengals sent nine batters to
the plate in the first inning, scoring three runs and
stranding three runners. They added another run in the
second inning for a 4-0 lead.
MSU Billings was poised to make a
rally in the top of the fourth when the Yellowjackets
loaded the bases with no outs.
Jenna Haacke (Billings, MT) reached on an error to
drive in
Steph Gosselin (Victoria, BC). But a foul out, a
caught stealing, and a strikeout ended the threat. Only
one other batter reached base for the Yellowjackets the
rest of the way.
Lindsay Boughton went the distance
for the Bengals, scattering five Yellowjacket singles
over seven innings. She struck out six and walked one
to improve to 6-16. Heather Dixon was 3-for-4 with
three RBIs and two runs scored. She homered and
doubled. Christine Schollenberger was 3-for-3 with a
pair of doubles in the leadoff spot. Whitney Nix drove
in three RBIs.
Lindsey Trenary (Helena, MT) took the loss for the
Yellowjackets. She gave up 12 hits and eight earned
runs in six innings. The loss dropped her to 4-4 on the
season.

Leslie Davis (Federal Way, WA),
Jessica Frank (Great Falls, MT), and
Mandy Schaapveld (Puyallup, WA) each had a single.
Following Saturday’s doubleheader,
the Yellowjackets close out the regular season with two
games against University of Great Falls on Sunday at
Cenex Stadium. The first game starts at 3:00 p.m. MSUB
will be the No. 3 seed at the Heartland Conference
Tournament which runs April 26-28 in San Antonio. |
