GOODWELL, OK- The Montana
State-Billings softball team used two extra inning games
to complete the series sweep over Heartland Conference
opponent Oklahoma Panhandle Sunday in Goodwell,
Oklahoma. The Lady Jackets defeated the Aggies 7-6 in
nine innings in game one and 3-2 in eight innings in the
late game. The wins improve the Jackets to 15-14
overall and 6-1 in conference play, while the Aggies
dropped to 4-20 and 0-14 in
the league.
The Lady Jackets found themselves
ahead 6-1 following four innings but the Aggies used two
two-run innings in the fifth and sixth and one in the
seventh to tie the game forcing extra innings. The
eighth inning drew zeros and in the top of the ninth and
with two outs, the Lady Jackets’
Jessica Frank (Great Falls, MT) singled to get on
base.
Terina Stacks (Washougal, WA) hit her eleventh
double of the season, and her second of the game,
bringing Frank home for the eventual game-winning run.
Stacks went 3-for-5 and drove in
two RBI.
Leslie Davis (Federal Way, WA) went 2-for-3 with two
runs, two RBI, and hit her second home run of the
season.
Lisa
Moore (Bakersfield, CA) improved to 4-4 on the
season and pitched six and two-thirds innings in earning
the win. Moore allowed six runs off 11 hits, and struck
out six batters. In total, the Lady Jackets drove in
seven RBI, four doubles, and one home run in game one.
To start game two, the Lady Aggies
got on the scoreboard first using a two-RBI third inning
to jump out to the 2-0 lead. In the top of the fourth,
the Lady Jackets answered back with two runs of their
own to tie the game. Davis reached on a fielder’s
choice and advanced to second on a single by
Stephanie Gosselin (Victoria, BC). Frank hit a
double to plate Davis with Gosselin advancing to third.
Aysha Maddox (Richland, WA) reached on a fielder’s
choice, advancing Frank to third with Gosselin picked
off at home plate.
Jenna Haacke (Billings, MT) hit a double bringing
Frank in for the run. The inning ended as
Lorel Palmer (Ogden, UT) grounded out.
The game remained scoreless in the
fifth through seventh innings sending the game into
extra innings. All it took was one run in the eighth
for the Jackets to sweep the series.
Megan Moeller (Ontario, OR) singled followed by a
sacrifice hit by Palmer to advance Moeller to second.
Rebekah Tsatsa (Eagle, ID) hit her first double of
the season to score Moeller for the win.
Frank went 4-for-4 with one run,
one RBI, and a double. Davis, Frank, and Moeller scored
runs for the Yellowjackets. Tsatsa improved to 6-6 in
picking up the win. She allowed no runs, struck out
four, and scattered two hits in five and a third innings
of work.
The Lady Jackets will have no rest
before taking on West Texas A&M in Canyon, Texas Monday,
March 19 for two games. First pitch is scheduled for
11:00 a.m. CST. Following the games against the
Buffalo’s, the Jackets will play four Heartland
Conference games against St. Edward’s University March
24 and 25. |
