MSUB Softball Falls in CWI Semis

RICHLAND, WA – The Montana
State-Billings softball team defeated Western Oregon 5-2
Sunday morning before falling to Seattle University 2-1
in the semifinals of the Central Washington
Invitational. The Yellowjackets were 5-3 at the
tournament that featured all six teams from the Great
Northwest Athletic Conference, which MSUB will join next
year. The Jackets improved their overall season record
to 9-11.
The Jackets beat Western Oregon for
the second time at the tournament and the third time
this season.
Rebakah Tsatsa (Eagle, ID) went the distance for her
third win of the season, scattering six hits over seven
innings.
Lorel Palmer (Ogden, UT) doubled twice, and
Terina Stacks (Washougal, WA) had a double. Palmer,
Stacks,
Jessica Frank (Great Falls, MT), and
Steph Gosselin (Victoria, BC) each drove in runs.
Western Oregon’s Christina Cooke
(2-6) gave up nine hits and five runs in six innings for
the loss. Krysta Pennington homered for one of the
Wolves’ two runs. Tyler Sutherland also drove in a run.
In the semifinal, Seattle beat the
Jackets for the second-straight time. The Redhawks used
a four-run seventh inning to win 9-2 on Saturday night.
A two-run fifth inning was enough for Seattle to prevail
Sunday morning. Tsatsa (3-5) took the loss after
allowing seven hits and two runs in six innings.
Megan Moeller (Ontario, OR) drove in the
Yellowjackets’ only run.
Erin Martin (6-2) earned the win
for the Redhawks, who went on to defeat Central
Washington for the tournament championship. Katie
Petersen and Megan MacIsaac drove in the fifth inning
runs.
MSU Billings will host University
of Mary (10-5) in the Jackets’ home opener on Wednesday,
March 7. The non-conference doubleheader will start at
10:00 a.m. at Cenex Stadium on the MSU Billings campus.
After Wednesday, the Yellowjackets don’t play at home
again until March 31. |
