Jacket Softball Headed to Frenchtown Tournament
(9/27/06)
BILLINGS, MT – The Yellowjacket
softball team will continue their non-championship fall
season this weekend as they travel to Frenchtown,
Montana for tournament play. The team, fresh off last
weekend’s action in Colorado, is scheduled to play five
games beginning Saturday at the Frenchtown Fall Classic.
The Jackets, who went 1-4 during
their recent road swing, edged Western Nebraska
Community College 7-6 for their single victory. The
team fell to Fort Lewis twice, and dropped single games
to Northern Colorado and Colorado State-Pueblo.
“Considering the few practices
we’ve had so far, we’re starting to see a few players
who could become starters,” said first year head coach
Kim Lemmens of the squad’s development. “There are still
a lot of them battling for those starting positions. Our
goal is to continue on the positives that we saw in
Colorado by improving on our communication, making
better choices on defense, and better choices at bat.”
The Yellowjackets start the
tournament on September 30 at Frenchtown High School
with a 2:00 p.m. game against Idaho State’s newly formed
Division I program, followed by a 4:00 p.m. meeting
against North Idaho College. Three more games are
slated for the following day, which start with a10:00
a.m. match against the University of Great Falls. The
Jackets again take on Idaho State at 12:00 and then
North Idaho College at 2:00. |
