COLORADO SPRINGS, CO. – The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference accepted Montana State University Billings as an associate member in women's golf, and men's and women's tennis, announced today by RMAC Commissioner Joel R. Smith. Presidents from the RMAC approved their acceptance into the league as an associate member in the three sports on Tuesday.
"We are very excited about having MSU Billings join our league as an associate member," said Smith. "They will make those three sports more competitive and we look forward to working with them."
MSU Billings competition in the RMAC will begin in the 2007-08 season.
"We are very excited to have our men's and women's tennis teams and our women's golf team approved for associate membership in the RMAC," said Dr. Gary Gray, Montana State Billings Director of Athletics. "This will afford these three Yellowjacket teams outstanding opportunities for NCAA Division II competition in the nearby Rocky Mountain region of the country in their respective sports. We look forward to developing a great relationship in these sports with the various RMAC member institutions."
The Yellowjackets will be the 10th school in the league to compete in women's golf, and the seventh school in men's tennis and women's tennis. Among the competitors of women's golf are Adams State College, Chadron State College, Colorado Christian University, Colorado State University-Pueblo, Fort Hays State (associate member), Mesa State College, Regis University, University of Nebraska at Kearney, and Western New Mexico University. The six institutions already competing in men's and women's tennis are Colorado Christian University, Colorado State University-Pueblo, Mesa State College, Metropolitan State College of Denver, University of Nebraska at Kearney, and Western New Mexico University.
MSU Billings has been a member of the Heartland Conference for the past two years. Beginning in 2007-08, they will move their membership to the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. The GNAC does not sponsor women's golf or tennis. |
