BILLINGS, MT – The Montana
State-Billings men’s soccer team held on for the 1-0 shutout win
Sunday over the visiting Texas – Permian Basin Falcons. The
Jackets end their 18-game season 5-11-2 while the Falcons
dropped to 7-8-2.
Very windy conditions made it
difficult to control the ball as both the Jackets and the
Falcons battled for a win in the final game of the season. The
first 45 minutes resulted in a scoreless tie but just 1:22 into
the second half
Jarred Weisen (Great Falls, MT) pushed the ball into the
corner and made a short pass to teammate
Sam
Charles (Chiswell, England). Charles made a quick cross to
a waiting
Jay
Doogan (Glasgow, Scotland) who fired the shot from about
three yards out finding the back of the Falcons’ net. Doogan’s
goal, his first of the season, turned out to be the eventual
game-winner.
The Falcons outshot the
Jackets 16-14 overall but the Yellowjackets had the 7-5
shots-on-goal advantage. The Falcons’ Gage Peterson recorded
six saves in the game while his counterpart
Sander Tollefson (Missoula, MT) made five. The shutout
marks Tollefson’s fourth of the season and is a school record
for shutouts in a single season. |
