BILLINGS, MT – Luck was not on
the side of the Montana State-Billings men’s soccer team
Thursday as the visiting Dustdevils of Texas A&M – International
edged the Jackets 2-1 at the College of Technology Field. The
loss drops the Jackets to 4-11-2 while the Devils improved to an
even 7-7-0.
With forty-seven seconds
remaining in the first half of play the Dustdevils’ Raul
Quinones took the loose ball in front of the Jackets goal
beating keeper
Sander Tollefson (Missoula, MT) to the left side of the
net. The goal, Quinones seventh of the season, gave the Devils
the 1-0 advantage at the half.
At the 50:10 mark, a foul just
outside the Devils box set up
Sam
Charles (Chiswell, England) for the free kick. A
well-placed ball found the back of the net tying the game at one
apiece. The goal was Charles’s team-leading seventh of the
season. Just seven minutes later, deep in Yellowjacket
territory, Leonardo Calvo made a short cross to teammate Abdiel
Amador. Amador tapped the ball in scoring the eventual
game-winning goal.
With 10:32 left to play in
regulation, the Jackets’
Greg
McKeever (Kirkland, WA) fired toward the Devils’ goal only
to have it bounce off the crossbar. McKeever found the ball
again just seconds later and another shot would be denied as
this one bounced off the post just wide.
The Yellowjackets out-shot the
Dustdevils 12-8 including 6-4 shots-on-goal. The Jackets’
Charles and
Jarred Weisen (Great Falls, MT) made four and two
shots-on-goal respectively. Dustdevils’ keeper Jonathan
Callahan recorded five saves while his counterpart Tollefson
made two.
The Yellowjackets will play
their final game of the season against Heartland Conference
provisional member University of Texas – Permian Basin (7-7-2)
