Coach McNally post game comments
AUSTIN, TX – Just when the
Montana State-Billings men’s soccer team thought they had a win
in the bag, St. Edward’s University scored two goals in the
final seven minutes of play to hand
the Jackets a painful 2-1 decision. The loss drops the Jackets
to 4-10-2 overall while the Hilltoppers improve to 6-4-3.
In the 70th minute
of regulation, the Jackets’
Jarred Weisen (Great Falls, MT) broke the scoreless tie on
an unassisted goal, his third of the season. At 82:58 the
Hilltoppers’ Jesse Leos evened the score volleying the ball to
the corner of the net on an assist from teammate Beau Grantier.
Tied at one a piece both teams
were probably expecting to duke it out in overtime. With just
39 seconds to play, Topper Jonathan McQuade gave a through ball
to Harrison Nance who crossed it in front of the Jackets’ goal
where Christopher Burrell connected icing the win for the
Hilltoppers.
Both the Jackets and the
Hilltoppers made eight shots in the game with the Yellowjackets
out-shooting the Toppers on goal 4-3.
Sander Tollefson (Missoula, MT) made just one save on the
day while his counterpart Chris Sanders recorded three. The
Jackets’
Jurell Linford (Missoula, MT),
Matt
D’Hont (Rapid City, SD), and
Jeremy DeHerrera (Kalispell, MT) each put shots on goal.
The Yellowjackets have just
two games remaining in the season, both of which will be
contested at the College of Technology Field. On Thursday,
October 26 the Jackets will play against Texas A&M –
International (5-6-0) at 2:30 p.m. followed by a game against
University of Texas – Permian Basin (6-7-0) on Sunday, October
28. Sunday’s game represents Parents and Alumni weekend at the
COT with kickoff scheduled for 1:00 p.m. |
