SAN ANTONIO, TX – A late goal
by University of the Incarnate Word was enough to edge the
Jackets 1-0 Friday in San Antonio, Texas. The loss drops the
Yellowjackets to 4-8-2 overall while the No. 11 nationally
ranked Cardinals improved to 11-1-2.
The Yellowjackets played a
defensive game for the first 45 minutes as Jackets’ keeper
Sander Tollefson (Missoula, MT) posted four saves in the
first half while the offense had no luck recording zero shots to
the Cards nine.
In the second half
Sam
Charles (Chiswell, England) and
Jay
Doogan (Glasgow, Scotland) managed shots on goal but as a
team MSUB was out-shot 17-6 with 8-2 on goal. A Yellowjacket
foul set up the Cardinals Tom Morrill for a free kick. Morrill
sent the ball past the Jackets line connecting with Miguel
Hurtado in front of the net. Hurtado headed the ball into the
left side of the goal at 83:31 giving the Cards the 1-0 win.
"The team
is playing very well right now," said Yellowjacket head coach
Dan McNally. "All signs are very positive for the programs
future because every single player could return for the 2007
season."
The Yellowjackets remain in
Texas to play St. Mary’s (3-6-3) on October 15. Game time is
scheduled for 3:00 p.m. CST. |
