BILLINGS, MT – In a spirited
game of wills, the Montana State-Billings men’s soccer team fell
2-1 in overtime against number six regionally ranked Metro State
College Sunday at the College of Technology Field. The loss
drops the Jackets to 4-7-2 overall while improving the
Roadrunners to 10-4-1.
The Yellowjackets struck first
against the Roadrunners off a corner kick by defender
Greg
McKeever (Kirkland, WA). McKeever sent the ball sailing to
the left corner where
Jeremy DeHerrera (Kalispell, MT) connected with the ball
mid-air to score at the 7:07 mark.
Just five minutes later, the
Roadrunners would even the score. Mark Cromie’s free kick
crossed to Wynne Mason who tied the game at one apiece. The
Roadrunners, playing one man short because of
a red card just before halftime, kept the Jackets scoreless
as MSUB controlled the tempo much on the second half.
At the 5:04 mark of the first
overtime, Metro's Sam Rolph crossed the ball to Phillip Owen
from deep left of the net. Owen caught
MSUB keeper
Sander Tollefson (Missoula, MT) off
balance, winning by golden goal.
The Yellowjackets travel to
Texas for their final three-game road trip of the season playing
games against No. 8 Incarnate Word (10-0-2) on October 13, St.
Mary’s (2-5-3) on October 15, and St. Edward’s (4-2-4) on
October 17. |
