Coach McNally post game audio
ODESSA, TX – The Montana
State-Billings men’s soccer team needed a confidence boost and
after dropping the first two games of the three-game road trip
to Texas, the Jackets’ salvaged the trip with a big 5-1 win
over College of the Southwest Tuesday in Odessa. The win
improves the Jackets to 2-6-2 overall while the Mustangs dropped
to 2-5-3.
The Jackets’
Jurell Linford (Missoula, MT) began what would become a
scoring barrage just 3:20 into the game. Linford’s header off a
free kick from teammate
Brian
Huskey (Billings, MT) was the fifth fastest goal scored by a
Yellowjacket in school history.
Jay
Doogan (Glasgow, Scotland) picked up his first of two
assists on a cross to
Sam
Charles (Chiswell, England) giving the Jackets a 2-0 lead.
Scoring his first collegiate goal at 34:48 of the first half,
Jarred Weisen (Great Falls, MT) took a pass from
Josh Hernandez (Palmdale, CA) firing the ball into the net.
The Mustangs got on the board on a goal scored by Edgar Mendoza
with less than 10 minutes remaining in the half.
Greg
McKeever (Kirkland, WA) scored on a penalty kick at 66:43
with Hernandez picking up the fifth and final goal of the game
at 74:56 on an assist from Doogan. The two assists in today’s
game ties Doogan for first in school history for assists in a
single game. The five goals and four assists in the game ties
the team for fourth in total points in a single game with 14.
“It was a great performance
today,” said Yellowjacket head coach Dan McNally. “The team
rebounded from the previous losses and for the first time they
looked dangerous on offense. Hopefully our momentum from this
result will carry over to our game against Colorado Christian on
Saturday.”
As a team, the Yellowjackets
out-shot the Mustangs 17-8. Keeper
Sander Tollefson (Missoula, MT) recorded four saves in the
game, lowering his goals against average to 1.63. Mustang
keeper Aaron Camarillo made six saves, facing 11 shots-on-goal.
The Yellowjackets return to
Billings to host Colorado Christian University (0-9-1). The two
