BILLINGS, MT – The Montana
State-Billings men’s soccer team fell 1-0 to Heartland
Conference opponent St. Edward’s University Saturday at College
of Technology Field. The loss drops the Yellowjackets to 1-3-2
on the season and improves the Hilltoppers to a perfect 3-0-0.
Both the Yellowjackets and
Hilltoppers were an evenly matched pair with neither team able
to get the upper hand and control of the game. The Hilltoppers’
Mitch Herr drew a direct kick and placed it into a mix of both
Yellowackets and Hilltoppers in front of the Jackets’ net. Beau
Grantier leaped into the air and made contact heading the ball
into the net giving the Hilltoppers the 1-0 lead at 39:02 of the
first half.
St. Edward’s knew they weren’t
safe with just a one goal lead and continued to pressure the
Jackets. The Yellowjackets pressured right back out shooting
the Hilltoppers 9-8 in the second half of play. Overall in the game, the
Hilltoppers out-shot the Jackets 17-13 with the MSUB posting
four shots on goal to St. Edward’s five.
Sam
Charles (Chiswell, England) led the Jackets with six shots,
three of which were on goal. Both the Jackets and Hilltoppers
goalkeepers made four saves apiece.
The Yellowjackets continue
their home stand hosting Albertson College next Saturday,
September 16 at the COT. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. |
