PUEBLO, CO – Just four seconds
into the second overtime, the Montana State-Billings men’s
soccer team had to settle for a 0-0 tie in their season opener
as the game was called on account of darkness. The
Yellowjackets start the 2006 campaign 0-0-1, while Colorado
State Pueblo is also 0-0-1.
Lightning came over the skies
of Pueblo setting the start time back a half hour. After the
threat passed, the game finally got underway at 5:30 p.m.
Freshman goalkeeper
Sander Tollefson (Missoula, MT) made a strong showing
in his first collegiate game posting seven saves.
Brian
Huskey (Billings, MT),
Matt
D’Hont (Rapid City, SD), and
Sam
Charles (Chiswell, England) each had a shot on goal
with
Jay Doogan (Glasgow, Scotland) taking a crack at the Thunderwolves' keeper twice.
“The players worked hard and
played the system,” said head coach Dan McNally. “I am very
proud of them and the result of tonight’s game. We are looking
forward to our game against Colorado Christian on Saturday.”
The Yellowjackets have the day
off Friday and return to the field Saturday playing Colorado
Christian University with a noon kickoff. Last time these two
teams met it ended with the Jackets taking the 1-0 win.
Following Saturday’s game, the Yellowjackets will round out
their road trip to Colorado with a game against Regis University
on Monday. The Jackets open at home September 1 against
Heartland Conference opponent Incarnate Word. |
