McKeever, Andrews Named Heartland POTW
(9/5/06)
BILLINGS, MT – The Montana
State-Billings men’s soccer program was once again chosen by the
Heartland Conference for the Player of the Week award. Both
Greg
McKeever (Kirkland, WA) and
Erik
Andrews (Kalispell, MT) were named as the offensive and
defensive players of the week respectively for the week of
August 28-September
3.
McKeever, a junior defender
from Kirkland, Washington has been awarded the first offensive
player of the week award for the Yellowjackets this season. The
Jackets played to their first win of the season against St.
Mary’s University winning 2-1 last Sunday. Following a
teammate’s goal earlier in the half, McKeever drew a direct kick
from the top of the box and was able to hook it past the line
and the Rattlers’ keeper to score the eventual game-winning goal
for the team. McKeever is also the Jackets team co-captain and
helped keep the team together through the final 30 minutes of
play after St. Mary’s drew within one on a made penalty kick.
Andrews, a freshman goalkeeper
from Kalispell, Montana was named the defensive
player of the
week; the second in a row for the Jackets. Andrews played in
his first collegiate game Sunday against St. Mary’s University
in which the Yellowjackets won 2-1. Allowing just one goal on a
penalty kick, Andrews stopped six shots on goal en route to the
Jackets first win of the season.
