Jacket Golfers Fifteenth at Invite

Final Results
AUSTIN, TX – The Montana
State-Billings men’s golf team shot a final round 324 to
wrap up competition at the St. Edward’s Invitational
held in Austin, Texas February 19 and 20. The
Yellowjackets placed fifteenth in the 15-team field
carding rounds of 350, 348, and 324 for a combined 1022.
St. Edward’s carded a final round
eight-under par 280 to storm back and take home the
championship Tuesday afternoon. The host team
Hilltoppers, ranked No. 6 in the nation, shot rounds of
316, 301, and 280 for a combined 897. Barry University
slid from first after day one to second shooting a 317,
303, and 280 for an even 900. Florida Institute of
Technology clinched third in the team competition with a
solid round of 289 on the final day. They came back
from a 331 following the first 18 holes to shoot 288 and
289 for a combined 908.
Barry University claimed the top
two spots on the leader board with Hernan Borja climbing
from a tie for third to win the invite with a final
round five-under par 67. Borja shot 75, 74, and 67 to
finish an even 216 for the competition. Borja’s
teammate Nick Gillaspy slid one spot to second with
rounds of 72, 72, and a one-over 73 for a combined 217.
Nick Cristea from St. Edward’s wrapped up third with
round of 77, 73, and 69 for a three-over 219.
The Jackets’
Zach
Abels (Twin Falls, ID) was in a seven-way tie for
sixteenth after day one and finished the invite in a tie
for thirty-second despite shaving one stroke off his
previous two rounds. Abels carded rounds of 79, 79, and
78 for a 236.
Michael Konrad (Rupert,
ID) struggled early with rounds of 84 and 91, but
improved to a six-over 78 in the final round to finish
seventy-first with a combined 253.
The Yellowjackets will play in the
Cal-State Bakersfield Spring Invitational February 26
and 27. Following the invite, the Yellowjackets will
play again in Bakersfield March 26 before the Heartland
Conference Tournament in April.
