Jackets’ Lewerke Named HLC Player of the Week
(2/27/07)
BILLINGS, MT – Montana
State-Billings baseball player
Ben Lewerke was named the Heartland Conference Pitcher of the Week for
the week of February 19-25. The honor is the first for both
Lewerke and the Yellowjackets Baseball program this season.
The
senior, left-hand pitcher from Mason City, Iowa earned himself
his second win in as many starts last week. Lewerke led the
Yellowjackets to 3-0 shutout win over top 25 team St. Mary’s
University February 22 in San Antonio, Texas. In the win over
the Rattlers, Lewerke allowed just a second inning single by St.
Mary’s, walked three and struck out one batter without allowing
a runner to advance past second base. In Lewerke’s two starts
this season, totaling 13 innings, he has a 0.69 ERA ranking him
first in the Heartland Conference.
The Yellowjackets head south
for another 12-game, 13-day adventure with games scheduled
against conference foe St. Edward’s (13-2, 8-0) on March 1 and 2
followed by a four-game series against Heartland provisional
member Texas – Permian Basin (4-6) on March 5 and 6. The
Jackets will wrap up the road trip with conference games against
Oklahoma Panhandle (3-9, 0-8) March 9 and 10. |
