HELENA, MT – The Montana State-Billings
women’s soccer team had its six-game unbeaten streak broken on
Sunday with a 3-0 loss at Carroll College. The loss dropped the
Yellowjackets to 5-2-1 overall. The Saints,
currently ranked 21st nationally in the NAIA, improved to
4-2-1.
The game was scoreless until halftime. The
Saints netted all three goals in the final 35 minutes with Katie
Smith, Jenni Annicchiarico, and Sarah McLaughlin scoring. The 55
minutes of scoreless play by Yellowjacket goalkeeper Megan
Plank (Jr., Phoenix, AZ) broke the school record for
consecutive scoreless minutes. Before Smith’s goal, Plank had not
allowed a goal in 415 consecutive minutes.
“I didn’t think we came out strong,” said
Yellowjacket head coach Don Trentham. “When you’re on the road
against a good team you have to play mistake free soccer. We
didn’t do that today. You have to give a lot of credit to
Carroll. They played well and deserved to win. It wasn’t the
result we wanted, but we’ll learn from it. We’ll use it to
prepare for upcoming regional games.”
The Yellowjacket offense
managed just five shots, all of them on goal, and were out shot
16-5. Ally
Stroup (Jr., Ojai, CA) and Brittney Sandau (So., Billings, MT) each had two shots on
goal.
The Yellowjackets return to NCAA Midwest
Region action on Saturday when they host Colorado School of Mines
on Saturday, September 24. Kickoff is schedule for 1:00 p.m. on
the Third Annual Futbol Frenzy Day at the MSU Billings College of
Technology. Sodexho will provide a barbeque for just $3 through
halftime of the game. |
