Lady Jackets’ Edwards Named Player of the Week (9/7/05)
BILLINGS, MT – Montana State-Billings women’s
soccer player Vanessa Edwards has been selected as the Heartland Conference
defensive
player of the week. The Yellowjackets were 2-0 last week with a
pair of regional wins. They won at Mesa State, 3-1, on Tuesday
and downed Adams State, 4-0, on Saturday in their home opener.
Monday’s 1-0 win against St. Mary’s was not considered for player
of the week awards because nominations are for games played each
Monday through Sunday.
Edwards, a sophomore defender from Kent, WA,
played 76 minutes in the win at Mesa State and 65 minutes in
Saturday’s shutout of Adams State. The Yellowjacket defense
allowed only nine combined shots on goal in the two victories,
including just one shot on goal in the blanking of Adams State.
Thanks to Edwards and the Yellowjacket defenders, Yellowjacket
goalkeepers needed to make just eight saves to record the two
victories.
After starting the season 3-1-1 against five
regional teams—three of which are ranked in the Midwest Region top
10 this week—the Yellowjackets will host two non-region games this
weekend. They play University of Mary on Saturday, September 10,
and University of Great Falls on Sunday, September 11. Both games
start at 1:00 on the MSU Billings College of Technology. |
