Maag Finishes 15th at HLC Tournament (4/19/06)
GUYMON, OK- The Montana
State-Billings women’s golf team rounded out their
season placing fifth in the team competition at the
Heartland Conference Championships held in Guymon,
Oklahoma April 17-18. The 36-hole tournament was played
at the par-70 Sunset Hills Golf Course.
Following two rounds of competition
it came down to a tie for first place in the team
event. Western New Mexico was the only team to better
their first round score to pull even with the first day
leader St. Edward’s. St. Edward’s carded rounds of 312
and 317 for a combined 629. Western New Mexico tallied
a 322 and 307 for a 629. St. Mary’s was bumped out of
the second spot to finish third with rounds of 317 and
320 for a 637. MSU Billings shot a first round 360
coupled with a second round 373 for 733 and fifth place
out of a seven-team field. The host team Oklahoma
Panhandle finished seventh with a 365 and 389 (754).
Emily Kvinta of St. Edward’s ended
atop the individual leader board shooting rounds of 77
and 74 for a 151. Kvinta finished eleven over par and
three strokes ahead of second. There was a three-way
tie for second place between Allison Kinser, Jessica
Harbin, and Kim Cammer. The three golfers finished with
a 154 for their two-round total. The Jackets’ Emily
Maag (So., Billings, MT) jumped two spots in the
competition to move from a tie for 17th to a
tie for 15th with rounds of 84 and 86 (170). Halley Montalban (So., Billings, MT) also climbed
two places finishing in a tie for 19th (89,
92, 181).
