Women Golfers Play at Grand Canyon Invite (3/28/06)
PHOENIX, AZ- The Montana State
University-Billings women’s golf team traveled to
Phoenix, Arizona to compete in the Grand Canyon
Invitational hosted by Grand Canyon University March 27
and 28. The 36-hole, par 72 invite was played at the
Palm Valley Golf Course.
Defending the team title from 2005
was Western Washington University who shot rounds of 306
and 309 (615). In second place with a one-stroke
advantage over the third spot is St. Mary’s University
with a 308 and 312 for a combined 620. There was a tie
for third between Northeastern State University and St.
Edward’s University. Northeastern shot a 311 and 310
for a 621 with St. Edward’s shooting 312 and 309. The
host team Grand Canyon finished sixth with a two-day
total 625 (319, 306). MSUB finished seventeenth
overall. The Lady Jackets had a 374 after the first 18
holes. Shaving 30 stokes off their second round (347),
the Jackets combined for a 721.
There was a tie for first in the
individual competition between Ashley Kelley from
Central Oklahoma and Jessica McKay from Grand Canyon.
Both shot a combined one-under par 143 for the
competition. Four strokes off the pace and tied for
third were Jessica Harbin of St. Mary’s and Kim Cammer
of Western New Mexico with a combined 148. The top Lady
Jacket finisher was Halley Montalban (So., Billings, MT)
with rounds of 91 and 77 for 168.
The Lady Jackets travel to Texas
April 2 and 3 to compete in the West Texas A&M
Invitational.
