Lieber Named Heartland Conference POTW (1/11/06)
BILLINGS, MT – Montana
State-Billings forward Michelle Lieber was named this weeks Heartland Conference
player of the week for the week of January 2-8. This marks the
fourth POTW award for the Jackets this season and is Lieber’s
second. The junior forward from Gillette, Wyoming joins
teammates Tanya Petersen and Alira Carpenter as recipients of
the award.
Lieber averaged 14 points and
9.3 rebounds per game in three Yellowjacket wins against
Heartland Conference opponents last week. The wins extend the
Lady Jackets’ winning steak to seven games. In Wednesday’s game
against Western New Mexico Lieber netted 14 points and 7 boards
in the 78-42 win over the Mustangs. In an 86-52 win against
Oklahoma Panhandle on Friday, Lieber grabbed eight rebounds and
16 points. In a non-conference game Saturday against OPSU,
Lieber had a double-doouble with 14 points and 13 rebounds in an
89-68 win over the Lady Aggies. Lieber currently ranks seventh
in the Heartland Conference in scoring with 12.8 points per
game, first for rebounds (9.3), first for field goal percentage
(66.3), sixth for blocked shots (0.67), fifth for offensive
rebounds (2.92) and second for defensive rebounds (6.42).
Lieber ranked fourth in the nation for field goal percentage and
39th for rebounding last week in the NCAA national
rankings.
The Lady Jackets play three
road games in San Antonio, Texas against Heartland Conference
opponents Incarnate Word and St. Mary’s (TX), January 11-14.
The Jackets’ next home game will be January 28 against St.
