Final NCAA Women’s Basketball Stats Leaders Released (4/10/06)

BILLINGS, MT – The NCAA has released its final women’s basketball statistical rankings of the year, and five different Montana State-Billings players finished the year ranked in the top 100 in the nation for at least one statistical category.  The Lady Yellowjackets finished the 2005-2006 season with an 18-9 overall record and shared the Heartland Conference regular season title with a 9-3 conference mark.

Heartland Conference co-Player of the Year Michelle Lieber (Jr., Gillette, WY) finished in the NCAA’s top 100 in three different statistical categories.  She was second in the country for field goal percentage at 67.1 percent and seventeenth in the nation for rebounding averaging at 10.2 rebounds per game.  Lieber averaged a double-double for the season, finishing 94th nationally for scoring average at 15.6 points per game.

Tanya Petersen, Jenny Langford, and Shannon Harvey were each ranked in two separate categories.  Petersen (Sr., Billings, MT) was 39th for blocked shots average (1.9) and 98th for rebounding average (8.2).  Langford (Sr., Reed Point, MT) was 63rd for 3-point field goal percentage (35.5) and 73rd for 3-point field goals per game (2.1).  Harvey (Jr., Billings, MT) was 64th for 3-point percentage (35.3) and 89th for 3-pointers made (2.0).  Senior guard Lisa Jellum (Gillette, WY) ranked 47th nationally for assists average (4.7).

As a team the Yellowjackets ranked in the top 100 among NCAA Division II schools in 11 different statistical categories.  Included in those 11 categories were a No. 5 ranking for 3-point field goals per game (8.3), a No. 23 ranking for free throw percentage (74.4), and a No. 29 ranking for assists per game (16.7).  Complete NCAA statistical listings can be found at www.ncaasports.com.
