Jacket Softball Falls to Seattle to Close Tourney (3/5/06)

RICHLAND, WA – A fifth inning rally
by 22nd-ranked Seattle University gave the
Redhawks a 7-4 win over Montana State-Billings on Sunday
to close out the Central Washington Invitational. Seattle
improved to 10-8 overall, dropping the Yellowjackets to
5-14.
MSU Billings scored a run in the top
of the first on a Jenna Haacke (So., Billings, MT) home run, her fourth
homer of the season. The Yellowjackets gave up two runs
in the bottom of the third on a Jane Purdy home run. The
Jackets retook the lead with three runs in the top of the
fifth.
Megan Moeller (Jr., Ontario, OR) led off the Jackets’
fifth inning with her first home run of the season. Five
batters later Crystal Bentley (Fr., Bothell, WA) singled to drive in Stephanie Rinehart (Fr., Gig Harbor, WA) and Aysha Maddox (Jr., Richland, WA).
The Yellowjackets’ 4-2 lead
evaporated in the bottom half of the fifth inning when the
Redhawks scored five runs on two hits and a Yellowjacket
error. A Heather Hansen two-RBI double capped the Seattle
rally.
Yellowjacket starter Lisa
Moore (Fr., Bakersfield, CA) gave up four hits and
seven runs in five innings. Only four of the Redhawks’
runs were earned as the Jackets committed two errors. Terina Stacks (Fr., Washougal, WA) pitched the final
inning for the Jackets, recording three-straight outs.
The Redhawks’ Erin Kemper scattered seven hits and two
earned runs over seven innings for the win.
Bentley was 2-for-4 with a pair of
RBI for the Jackets. The Redhawks’ Purdy went 1-for-2
with a home run and three RBI.
The Yellowjackets return to Billings
for their home opener on March 11 against Dickinson
State. First pitch at Cenex Stadium is scheduled for 1:30
p.m. |
