Helena Capital’s Trenary Signs with Lady Jackets (4/24/06)

BILLINGS, MT – Montana State University-Billings head softball coach Sean McGary announced Monday that Lindsey Trenary of Helena, Mont., has signed a national letter of intent to play for the Yellowjackets.  Trenary is currently a senior at Helena Capital High School.

“We’re excited that Lindsey is now officially a Yellowjacket,” said McGary.  “I believe she will make a great addition to our pitching staff.  Lindsey is currently one of Montana’s best pitchers, and I think when she reaches her potential, she definitely increases our chances of getting back to the national tournament.”

The Yellowjackets recently completed their 2006 regular season with a 19-29 overall record and a 12-12 mark in the Heartland Conference.  They will play in the Heartland Conference Tournament in San Antonio on April 27-29.  In 2005 the Yellowjackets qualified for the NCAA West Regional, but they graduated nine seniors from that team.

Trenary was a two-sport standout at Helena Capital.  She lettered three times in basketball and softball.  She helped lead the Bruins to the 2004 Class AA state softball title and a runner up finish in 2005.  Trenary was named first team all-conference and first team all-state as a junior.

Last season Trenary batted .338 for Capital.  In nearly 90 innings pitched she posted a 1.87 ERA and an 8-3 record.  Trenary played ASA for Mountain West Crush, leading the team to the NFPSA Summer Nationals title in 2004 and the ASA State Championship in 2005.

“Lindsey has tremendous work ethic both on the field and in the classroom,” added McGary.  “She should make the transition from high school to college rather easily, and she should be one of those players that steps in as a freshman and can make an impact in the league.”
