PHOENIX, AZ – The Montana State-Billings
men’s soccer team wrapped up its 2005 season with a 1-0 loss
late Monday night at Grand Canyon University. The defeat
dropped the Yellowjackets to 5-13-0 for the season while Grand
Canyon improved to 6-7-2.
In a game with little offensive action,
the Lopes scored the game winner in the 53rd minute
when David Hague took a pass from Andrew Bailey and beat
Yellowjacket goalkeeper Jess Feldtman (Sr., Lander, WY). Grand Canyon out-shot
MSU Billings 9-1 in the game. Feldtman made two saves.
While the Yellowjacket defense had
another solid performance, the offense struggled as it has all
season. The Yellowjackets’ lone shot came from freshman Brian Huskey (Billings, MT) in the first half. For the
year Feldtman and the Yellowjacket defense had a respectable
1.81 goals against average, but MSU Billings was outscored
33-20. Although the 1.81 GAA is a school defensive record,
the last time the Yellowjackets scored fewer goals was in 1999
when they had 11.
In 2006 MSU Billings will replace seven
seniors, five of which were starters this season. In addition
to Feldtman, who finishes his career as the school record
holder for career saves, the Jackets will lose starters Patrick Boltz (Kaneohe, HI), Jesse Spann (Rock Springs, WY), Marcus Riley (Kalispell, MT), and Dustin Kono (Aberdeen, SD). Kono was the team’s leading
scorer this season with seven goals and 15 points. Riley had
a team-high three assists. |
